What you’ll do…
As a Principal, Data Scientist, you will spearhead analytics within Walmart’s US Marketing team, providing insights and optimization opportunities to marketers, managers, and senior leaders. You’ll develop a comprehensive understanding of how marketing channels and business strategies drive customer engagement and sales. Collaborating with Performance Marketing, Brand Marketing, Data Engineering, Category Marketing, Merchandising, and Finance, you will integrate data-driven decision-making into our marketing strategy. This highly visible role at Walmart offers the opportunity to significantly impact the entire organization. You will report to the Director of Data Science.

This is
not
a remote role, you must live within driving distance to one of our hubs: Bentonville, AR, Hoboken, NJ or San Bruno, CA and spend the majority of your work week in the office.
You will make an impact by
:
Optimize Walmart’s marketing investment by designing marketing measurement models. – Use marketing insights to understand customer value and engagement.
Establish respectful cross-team relationships and align stakeholders’ views with analytical insights.
Identify and leverage opportunities for advanced analytics.
Collaborate with Data Enablement and Tech teams on analytics data pipeline requirements. – Forecast marketing’s impact on sales and digital traffic with Marketing, Finance, Tech, and Planning teams.
Promote an analytical mindset among Marketing partners through tool development and training.

Experience in solving complex data science problems at scale.
Proven customer focus.
Multi-sector business experience.
Proficiency in data gathering, structuring, and distribution.
Experience in data transformation/automation within cloud architectures like Google Cloud Platform.
Ability to communicate complex quantitative information to senior leaders.
Collaborative nature and comfort in unstructured environments.
Experience in analyzing customer-product interactions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Option 1: Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 5 years’ experience in an analytics related field.
Option 2: Masters degree in Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field and 3 years’ experience in an analytics related field.
Option 3: 7 years’ experience in an analytics or related field
3+ years of experience in Retail Analytics, Digital Analytics, or eCommerce Analytics
2+ years of experience leading teams and influencing Product, Finance, Business Operations and Engineering.
Strong organizational skills, ownership, accountability, project leadership, effective communication, and self-initiative.
Experienced in development, deployment, and leadership of advanced marketing solutions and predictive models
Proficient in supervised and unsupervised models –
Skilled in cloud-based big data technologies like Hive/Hadoop
Proficient in visualization tools like Tableau
Familiar with various marketing data, including media and digital audience data – Knowledgeable in causal inference measurement methodologies
Proven leadership and collaboration with senior marketing leaders – Understanding of digital marketing channels and ad technology optimization
Advanced proficiency in Python, Spark, Scala, or R.
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Operations Research, or related field.
9 years’ experience in data science, machine learning, optimization models, or related field.
7 years’ experience using open-source learning frameworks (for example, Scikit Learn, TensorFlow, Torch).
2+ years leadership / supervisory experience.
Prior experience with strategy consulting companies

Hoboken, New Jersey US-10279:The annual salary range for this position is $132,000.00-$264,000.00
San Bruno, California US-08848:The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00-$286,000.00
Bentonville, Arkansas US-09401:The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
