What to Expect
Tesla’s Energy Policy team supports the company’s objectives by engaging key stakeholders on a broad range of policy platforms, including legislative, municipal, business development and regulatory matters to support solar energy, energy storage, energy manufacturing, and energy deployments. The Staff Policy Advisor will be responsible for initial business development and work as a policy lead, searching for, responding to, and assessing potential federal and regional business relationship needs. The Staff Policy Advisor will have a focus in federal engagements including with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Federal Agencies, and Congressional officials.
What You’ll Do
Supporting regulatory and legislative policy proposals at the federal and regional level
Developing and negotiating policy proposals and business development opportunities, advocating on behalf of Tesla to parties, stakeholders, and federal/regional leaders, as well as engaging community, industry, and related organizations
Enable/Educate internal partners on regulatory compliance requirements for energy management and procurement
Build strong relationships with regulators, peer companies, and trade associations and their staff members to advance the company’s goals and objectives.
Support regulatory and legislative policy proposals at the state and regional levels including providing oral and written testimony
What You’ll Bring
Degree in a field relevant to Energy, Political Science, Economics, and Utility Business Models or equivalent experience
8+ years’ relevant work experience in the electricity or energy industry and 4+ Federal Affairs and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission engagement experience
Deep knowledge of electric utility regulations, regional transmission system operations, and interconnection rules
Impeccable communication and presentation skills, both writing and speaking – ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of individuals
Highly structured individual with affinity for business models, financial modelling, optimization, and creative thinking
Highly energetic personality with an ability to function autonomously in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
