What to ExpectTesla is committed to hiring and developing diverse talent in all disciplines This position will collaborate with multiple teams across Tesla to characterize battery materials, determine degradation mechanisms, and optimize cell performance. Our team is looking for a highly motivated candidate to contribute to battery performance testing and fundamental electrochemical analysis. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the development cell test plans to characterize initial cell performance, lifetime behavior, reliability, and identify critical failures and degradation modes. In addition, this candidate will help plan test resources, track test progress and analyze/report testing results. We want team focused candidates with strong communication skills who challenge and want to be challenged, and who create and innovate. We want teammates who will thrive in a fast-paced company with real hardware and are self-motivated and disciplined. What You’ll DoContribute to our efforts to better understand lithium-ion battery performance and degradation Be a key member of a cross functional team to help determine the ideal cell chemistry and design of our future products Support the development of new electrochemical/chemical tests to understand cell degradation analysis and cell modeling Support the development of new electrochemical/chemical tests to analyze battery materials or parameters, elucidate fundamental mechanisms leading to degradation, and improve cell modeling Interpret and quantify degradation modes of various battery chemistries and propose countermeasures Work with air-sensitive materials using a glove box and/or in a dry room Support developing new techniques for analyzing battery materials or parameters Support interpreting and quantifying degradation modes of various battery chemistries What You’ll BringDegree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or equivalent experienceFamiliarity with degradation mechanisms of batteries and battery materials Experience with battery cyclers Proficient with MATLAB, Python, or similar data analysis toolsFamiliar with chemical analysis techniques for battery materials Ability to learn new concepts and methods from the literature, propose design of experiments, and execute independentlyKnowledge of EIS interpretation preferred
