What to Expect
Battery cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical. Our team works with engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts, high aptitude recent graduates, and people from every stage in between. We look for anyone with an exceptional ability to solve problems in both individual and team settings.
What You’ll Do
Lead materials development, testing and validation for binders and polymer additives for Tesla’s Li-ion cells
Prepare material samples in various formats (powders, films, electrodes, slurries, coin cells, etc.) and operate analytical and electrochemical tools to test performance
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Cell Design, Program Management, Modeling, Process Development, Manufacturing Engineering, etc.) to lead these materials from initial concept to cell product
Prepare technical reports and communicate key learnings to cross-functional internal teams, material suppliers and cell vendors. Act as key technical point of contact for both internal and external teams
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of industry experience in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or similar
Drive to conduct hands-on experiments in a laboratory environment, which may include wet chemistry, glovebox usage, etc.
Expertise in electrochemistry, Li-ion cell design and/or manufacturing
Strong understanding of materials science, especially polymer science and physics
