What to Expect

ManufacturingEngineers will develop world-class equipment and processes, working withcross-functional teams throughout the entire product launch lifecycle fromdesign to full production ramp. This role requires a highly driven Engineer to workclosely with Design Engineering, Quality, Production, Maintenance and ExternalVendors to take new vehicle designs from initial concept through prototypedevelopment and into high-volume production.

What You’ll Do
Collaborateclosely with Design Engineering to develop products that lend themselves tostreamlined and robust manufacturing methods with industry-best safety,quality, rate and cost
Support Tesla’sfactory and facility teams to develop highly-efficient and optimizedfactory-level layouts
Take directresponsibility for exceeding market-leading dimensional quality and lead allactivities towards this objective including the development of GD&Tstrategies, quality control plans and dimensional improvement plans
Lead thedevelopment of innovative and robust tooling design to achieve the process planand GD&T strategy, working closely with Tesla’s partner vendors to buy-offand deliver the final product
Drive thecontinued improvement of early project planning documents such as projecttimelines, Requests for Quotations, FMEA’s and Safety Risk Assessments
Lead thedevelopment and introduction of processes and equipment associated with earlyprototype builds and highlighting key process and equipment improvementopportunities throughout the prototype builds themselves
Work closely withTesla’s partner vendors to develop world-class production lines withunprecedented simplicity, density, speed, and automation
Lead theinstallation, commissioning, and ramp of high-volume production lines, ensuringclose collaboration with Tesla’s partner vendors to deliver the line in theshortest possible time and lowest possible cost
Initiate anddrive strategies to rapidly ramp the quality and rate of newly launchedproduction lines to full capacity with a focus on maintaining the highest ofsafety standards throughout the ramp duration
Build on thesuccess of existing line layouts, processes, and tooling to further improvematerial flow, waste reduction, safety, and ergonomics by utilizing leanmanufacturing best practices and structured problem-solving methodologies
What You’ll Bring
B.S. in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or ElectricalEngineering; or equivalent experience and evidence of exceptional ability
5+ years of related experience developing andlaunching complex assembly processes
A ‘can-do’ attitude with open mindedness and astrong desire to think ‘outside the box’
A proven track record of taking initiative,managing competing demands, collaborating closely with others, and remainingpositive in high-pressure environments
A demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented andmake data-based decisions, owning assignments and taking full accountabilityfor their successful and timely delivery
Flexibility and adaptability to changingpriorities and assignments, coping with rapidly changing inputs, constraints,and priorities
Strong familiarity with structuredproblem-solving methodologies such as DMAIC, 5 Whys, Fishbone, and 8D
Extensive hands-on experience with modifyingjigs, fixtures, and coordinating equipment installations.
Strong understanding of BOMs, OEE,manufacturability, DFM, process design, process validation, assembly methods,design reviews and cost reduction methodologies
Experience with AUTOCAD, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, andother similar software/tools
