Tesla

What to Expect

The R&D Test Systems Engineering (TSE) team is responsible for identifying, designing, building, and commissioning scalable test solutions to accelerate product development cycles by leveraging Tesla’s internal technology to reduce cost and increase flexibility.  TSE is a rare team at Tesla that supports both vehicle and energy programs across R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing.  You will have the opportunity to contribute towards all aspects of Tesla’s businesses and directly impact Tesla’s mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

The team is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Electrical Engineer to join us in our mission.  In this role, you will leverage Tesla’s technologies (high-power bidirectional AC-DC and DC-DC converters, motor/powertrain/chassis dynamometers, vehicle inverters, data acquisition, software systems, etc.) and improve / develop end-to-end hardware test solutions. These solutions / improvements will be integrated with the final test system or equipment and will require close collaboration with cross-functional groups within TSE and end-users across Tesla.

What You’ll Do
Develop, validate, and integrate end-to-end electrical hardware test solutions
Lead collaborative troubleshooting efforts with Mechanical, Electrical, and Software design teams to identify and resolve technical issues across global fleet, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance
Analyze data, generate reports, and communicate results with engineering teams to facilitate improvements and design releases
Investigate and document equipment failures (RCA) and help drive test system improvements
Work directly with hardware and software design teams to create validation test plans, procedures, and reports
Lead validation testing and system integration of new upgrades and solutions. Update or create electrical schematics, BOM, harness drawings, system diagrams as needed
Perform component, board, and system level electrical, functional and characterization measurements
Collaborate with Test teams and technicians to coordinate equipment upgrades and retrofits across global locations
Create documentation for test equipment certification, operation, and maintenance
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience and 3 years of professional experience
Hands-on hardware design and testing experience in power electronics (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC) and low-power analog, digital circuits. Experience working with high-voltage and high-power systems is desired
Experience in PCB layout with signal integrity, noise, and EMI considerations (Altium experience required)
Experience with modeling and circuit simulation tools such as MATLAB-Simulink, LTspice, etc.
Experience with embedded programming (microcontrollers, DSP, etc.) and digital communication protocols (CAN, RS-485, SPI, I2C, etc.)
Strong knowledge of dynos, motors, power systems, and switchgear components
Knowledgeable in interpreting NEC, international installation codes, UL and CE electrical safety requirements
Experience with laboratory test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, high-voltage differential probes, current probes, power analyzers, data acquisition modules, etc.
Experience with test automation and data analysis in Python, LabVIEW, etc.
Experience with enterprise tools such as Jira, Confluence, MS Office, etc.
