What to Expect
We are looking for an Engineer to conduct battery-scale thermal destructive safety testing, for both vehicle and energy storage packs. You will play a key role in making sure Tesla’s products behave gracefully even under extreme conditions. You would be responsible for the full test cycle: planning, executing, interpreting tests and investigating failures to optimize product safety that accelerates Tesla’s next-gen products’ time to market.
What You’ll Do
Create detailed test plans based on communication with design teams and program managers
Own the test planning activities (e.g. instrumentation, charging) as per program schedule
Coordinate with technicians in battery pack build, instrumentation, test teams
Conduct tests safely and in a manner faithful to the design intent / failure mode
Analyze thermal and electrical data, video footage and present test results to stakeholders
Identify and execute ideas to increase the efficiency and quality of battery thermal testing
Develop coupon studies to allow rapid testing of specific subsystems
Collaborate with modeling team to align on results, generate inputs, and discuss mechanisms
Interpret regulations and tailor tests setup and results accordingly
What You’ll Bring
Degree in in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
Ideal focus areas include heat transfer, combustion, or materials
2-10 years of experience in design validation/ compliance/ battery testing
Must be hands-on (physical assembly, electrical wiring / troubleshooting)
Experience with data analysis tools- Matlab or Python preferred
Experience with CAD (CATIA a bonus)
Role includes some travel (up to 20%) to test sites
