What to Expect
As a Mechanical Engineer focusing on Drive Unit NVH Test on the Drive Systems team, you will play a critical role in the development of Tesla’s cutting-edge products. You will help bring the electric drive system products to life while ensuring their acoustic integrity. Working closely with Drive Systems Engineers, NVH Specialists and cross functional teams, you will tackle some of the industry’s most challenging problems and deliver world-class NVH performance. The role is based in Palo Alto, CA. 
What You’ll Do

Plan, coordinate, and oversee execution of drive unit engineering NVH tests

Perform NVH data analysis and risk assessment to drive and guide design decisions in drive unit development

Collaborate with Drive Unit Design team to investigate and resolve abnormal drive unit NVH issues found in engineering tests, production dyno tests and in the field 

Assess NVH impact of drive unit design changes and work with the Design team to quantify potential NVH risks

Support Drive Unit Design team with NVH tests for new technology development and NVH model calibration and improvement

Work with Vehicle NVH and Drive Unit Manufacturing teams to develop NVH test profile, define NVH metrics and set performance limits for metrics on drive unit production dyno tests

Collaborate with Vehicle NVH team to refine production dyno NVH profile, metrics and limits based on dyno yield, vehicle NVH evaluation and field NVH issues

Monitor drive unit NVH dyno yield, identify critical issues, and collaborate with Design, Quality, and Supply Chain team to resolve them

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience

2+ years of experience in drive unit or transmission NVH testing or a similar field

Strong communication skills, self-motivated, and an excellent team player

Experience working in a dynamometer lab is preferred

Basic knowledge of vehicle and motor/gearbox NVH, and familiarity with vehicle instrumentation and CAN communication

Experience in data processing and correlation studies for NVH issue root cause analysis 

Proven ability to deliver results on complex projects under tight deadlines

Experience with Siemens LMS TestLab and NI VeriStand

Hands-on experience executing drive unit NVH tests on in-house dynamometers
