What to Expect
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Manufacturing Mechanical Equipment Engineer to join the GigaTX General Assembly team. You will work with cross-functional teams responsible for designing and producing exciting new technologies. You will need to successfully collaborate closely with highly talented engineers. The Equipment Engineer is responsible for sustaining, improving, designing and/or sourcing pieces of tooling and equipment. They will collaborate with test engineering & Controls Engineers to maintain existing equipment and testers.
What You’ll Do
Respond to equipment issues and maintenance escalations, while looking for opportunities to improve existing designs
Design new tooling, fixtures, assembly aids, and equipment for manufacturing lines
Document BOMs, schematics, maintenance guides, and operator manuals for equipment
Create CAD Models and technical 2D drawings for new tooling/equipment and performing FEA structural analysis when applicable
Work closely with Process Engineers to identify opportunities for new tools or equipment to improve process in productivity, quality, safety, or total cost
Analyze processes and identify where automation can be most beneficial, while working with Automation/Control Engineers to design/install automation
Define specifications and requirements for tooling/equipment
Conduct risk assessments on equipment under development and lead safety buyoffs for equipment before launch
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience 
2+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment required, including exposure to safety best-practices and experience with 3D CAD design and analysis; SolidWorks required, CATIA a plus 
Strong mechanical equipment development, layout design and analysis skills. Equipment includes pneumatics, e-fill, conveyance, robots, sensors, motors, pumps, and actuators
Successful track record in designing tools and equipment for manufacturing or assembly processes
Experience sourcing large equipment projects and supervising installation
Able to read, interpret, troubleshoot, and create complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatics, and hydraulic schematics
Comfortable with ambiguity, a fast-paced environment, and in a role with broad scope 
Self-starting and proactive with excellent written/verbal communications, while being able to work with little to no direction
