What to Expect
As a Project Engineer at Tesla, you will oversee the deployment and execution of fleetwide upgrades for our advanced battery cell manufacturing equipment within the Tabless department. This role involves managing multiple manufacturing lines as they are upgraded and retrofitted to achieve world-class quality, rate, yield, and output. You will coordinate cross-functional teams to drive technical projects from initial concept through to production, focusing on installation, integration, qualification, validation, and handover. Your role will also involve hands-on work and data analytics to ensure that upgrades meet their expected benefits.
What You’ll Do
Enable data-driven decisions through predictive insights into tool and process performance, integrating factory data systems and using software like MySQL, Python, R, JMP, Tableau, and Ignition
Utilize SPC data and tools to define equipment process limits, robustness, and action thresholds
Lead root cause analysis for novel product quality issues and implement short-, medium-, and long-term corrective actions to reduce escape rates to zero
Take ownership of Tabless yield, establishing and maintaining systems to ensure current performance while simultaneously leading projects to achieve long-term yield targets.
Lead continuous improvement projects and standardization efforts to enhance lean manufacturing systems, maximizing yield, capacity, and capability
Propose and implement business improvement ideas for cost reduction, labor savings, material flow, and safety enhancements
Maintain and update process documentation such as Manufacturing Instructions, Standard Work documents, PFMEA, and Control Plans
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physical Science, or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience as a Process Engineer with expertise in process development, troubleshooting, data analysis, and flow optimization
Preferred knowledge of MySQL, Python, R, JMP, Minitab, Tableau, and Ignition software
Strong capability in identifying critical process parameters and applying statistical methods to process measurement and control
Strong experience in data collection and analysis within a high-volume automated manufacturing environment
Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies is highly desirable
Understanding of BOMs, manufacturability, process design, validation, and cost reduction methodologies
Experience with ergonomic process design, part variation control, and human factors in product design
Experience in high-speed winding, roll-to-roll, battery cell manufacturing, laser welding, or laser cutting is preferred
