What to Expect
The Crash Safety Software team is seeking a Software Integration Engineer who will be at the center of new development of the safety and restraint systems on all Tesla Vehicles. You will work closely with low voltage, mechanical, crash calibration teams, and external suppliers to ensure features are designed, implemented, and validated to Tesla’s high standards for safety and customer experience. You will employ sound systems engineering principles and software development skills to work through a variety of challenges from defining system architecture and requirements, implementing and testing safety-critical software, to systematically analyzing and root-causing field issues.
The Crash Safety Software team develops and integrates restraint controller functionality that makes Tesla’s vehicles the safest on the road. Join the growing team to tackle our mission to improve real-world crash safety through smart engineering and ambitious innovation using insights gathered from our global connected vehicle fleet as well as our state-of-the-art crash lab. You will solve some of the most ambiguous and challenging problems in the industry while working alongside deeply knowledgeable engineers from different disciplines, in a fast-paced environment, using cutting-edge software development tools and practices.
What You’ll Do
Work with the design and development engineers throughout the engineering organization to ensure the crash safety restraint system is designed with appropriate requirements, interfaces, and interactions to achieve safety-critical operation
Write vehicle level embedded firmware in C to define core embedded functionality, utilize unit-testing and software-in-the-loop infrastructure to test and validate implementation
Work cross-functionally across mechanical, electrical, software development, and software validation teams to understand new component-level hardware changes and support them in software – both in manufacturing and for customer use – so that they can be seamlessly introduced to our vehicle platforms
Develop and execute software integration test plans on new hardware components and software features to rapidly retire risk from new designs and provide feedback to the development teams
Work with manufacturing and service to ensure the functions are rolled out and functioning properly (can include development of processes, diagnostic tools and methods, and root-cause diagnosis for product issues)
Lead and participate in functional safety analysis of complex software systems
Develop the safety concept, lead HARA, DFMEAs and guide software design
Interface with the homologation team and understand homologation requirements for the crash safety system needed for production certifications
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Mechatronics, Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience
Experience with systems involving multiple networked microprocessors, sensors and actuators
Experience with C/C++
Experience with Python
Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and leading through influence
Experience with analyzing data to develop technical insights and make decisions
Ability to communicate complex technical topics across organization levels and functions
Experience with safety critical systems is preferred
Experience with CAN and Vector tools is preferred
Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment (HARA) is preferred
