Tesla’s Austin, TX Die Shop is seeking a skilled and highly motivated 5-axis CNC Gundrill Machinist to join the team and contribute to our mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy. As a CNC Gundrill Machinist you are responsible for gundrilling the some of the most critical features of the dies. You will be expected to closely monitor the machine, process and tooling for signs of failure. You will inspect and setup precision gundrills and other cutting tools. You will be working with engineers and CNC programmers to improve die manufacturing practices and design for manufacturing.
What You’ll Do
Operate 5-axis CNC gundrilling machining center in a low-volume / high-mix workflow
Follow process documents and perform setups and operations as described
Monitor drilling operations for signs of tool-wear, breakage, or other issues
Setup, measure, and inspect gundrills and other cutting tools
Provide feedback to engineers and CNC programmers on design and process improvement
Machine complex components to tight tolerances in various materials with tight deadlines
Track and document the machining processes and results
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of 5-axis CNC machining operating experience and 3+ years of 5-axis CNC gundrill operating experience. (CHETO or Unisig experience preferred. Heidenhain control experience preferred)
Thorough knowledge of industry leading gundrilling tooling and practices
Thorough knowledge and understanding of engineering drawings, documents and GD&T
Thorough knowledge in the use of measurement and inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauge pins, bore gauges, optical comparator, etc.
Excellent attention to detail, mathematical skills, and mechanical aptitude
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to develop and present technical information
Flexible with ability to work overtime on short notice based on strategic needs of the company
