DESCRIPTION
Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.
The Test Rack Engineer will implement assembly, integration and test flows for our propellant loading system. This individual will work closely with and work alongside engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure our Kuiper propellant loading equipment is operational from a hardware and software availability.
The Test Rack Engineer is a skilled individual contributor within the team, providing guidance on many aspects including but not limited to testing requirements, software management, assembly/integration work cell design within the payload processing facilities, facility and equipment planning, integration and test application implementation and improvement, process control, design for manufacturability, and project management.
The ideal candidate is comfortable in a highly technical setting and leads collaboration with other departments to reach the best solution to any problem and is able to technically challenge assumptions and requirements.
Additionally, this Test Rack Engineer is expected to execute technical objectives, not only identifying the right long-term strategies but implementing them on their software responsibilities, leading by example first and then by instruction. They’ll have experience in space software integration and test, with particular focus on testing and electrical ground support equipment.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities
• Participating in a matrixed team of engineers to support multiple processing facilities and launch sites
• Assist in hiring personnel (engineers and technicians)
• Track, implement, and continuously improve assembly, integration and test processes
• Specify and procure various test and support equipment and systems to meet program development requirements
• Interface with facilities personnel in site usage and integration flow
• AIT takt time and cost optimization planning
• Definition and implementation of Work Order and automated documentation processes.
• Payload compliance certification sign-off
• Anomaly resolution and corrective action implementation
• Shift schedule will vary, depending on production/launch schedules
• Must be willing and able to perform extended travel up to 25% annually, either domestically or internationally as business needs demand

A day in the life
The Test Rack Engineer will spend significant amounts of time collaborating with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to test satellites and oversee propellant equipment software integration. They will support their assembly, integration and test workstations, address root cause of failures and issues, and implement production control and optimization strategies. They will support the space hardware product value streams, implementing engineering best practices in a safe and repeatable manner, implementing efficiency improvements and reducing non-conformances.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or software engineering
– 1+ years of technical leadership role in setting up test and electrical ground support equipment
– 3+ years of experience with Electrical Ground Support Equipment development, test and daily usage
– 3+ years of experience with developing electrical assemblies (or 5+ years of experience with space electronics hardware build and development)
– 1+ years of experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
– 2+ years of experience coding in python and write/update test scripts
– Able to obtain and maintain a US Passport and Must meet customs entry requirements to include but not limited to: Yellow Fever vaccine and other immunization requirements as recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
– Able to pass Kennedy Space Center background checks
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
– Experience with the project management of technical projects
– Experienced with various automated manufacturing processes, including electrical and test methods at component level, subsystem, and system level
– Experienced with handling and tracking systems for continuous material flow to manufacturing lines
– Highly familiar with QTP/ATP and production test methods, and automated data acquisition and collection
– Formal training/certification in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, 5S, Six Sigma, etc.) a plus
– Strong organizational, analytical, root cause analysis and problem-solving skills
– Excellent communication and leadership skills
– Additional Requirements
– Able to stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive assembly operations
– Able to climb and down ladders, work in tight spaces, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, and stretching may be required to perform the functions of this position.
– Able to lift at least 25 lbs. unassisted
