DESCRIPTION

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will help solve a variety of technical challenges related to manufacturing the fleet of satellites, ground equipment and associated ASICs as well as mentor other scientists and engineers. Given that this is an early-stage initiative, you will play an active role in translating business and functional requirements into concrete deliverables and build quick prototypes or proofs of concept in partnership with other technology leaders within the team. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and given the size of this initiative, you’ll have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams across Amazon. You should be comfortable with a degree of ambiguity that’s higher than most projects and relish the idea of solving problems that haven’t ever been solved at scale before!

Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment; that is more startup than big company. We’ll need to tackle problems that span a variety of domains: software, hardware, networks, RF, embedded, real-time and distributed systems as well as industrial automation.

You will design and develop the manufacturing software used to drive the assembly, calibration and test of satellite and ground systems as well as perform high-throughput ASIC/chip level provisioning and testing. You will collaborate with teams from manufacturing engineering, product engineering, and security engineering to identify requirements and design manufacturing software. This includes ensuring the necessary functional, interface, and security capabilities while also addressing system performance needs. You will design and develop the end-to-end system capabilities required for manufacturing orchestration across factory production lines.

Along the way, we guarantee that you’ll learn a ton, have fun and make a positive impact on millions of people.
