We have an immediate opening for a Fleet Remediation Project Design Mechanical Engineer leading design development for capacity projects within our existing fleet of data centers. As an Amazon Fleet Remediation Project Design Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers that upgrade our existing infrastructure to improve power utilization and increase available building capacity to land additional server racks and increase customer base. You will be the ‘go to’ engineering resource for these projects and will provide lifecycle support from design through implementation. You will use your mechanical expertise to:

– Own the design for existing data center upgrades and develop solutions that add data center capacity and/or reduce power utilization.
– Generate global standardized designs for various types of projects that delivery incremental capacity to the business.
– Collaborate with capacity delivery & planning teams to identify opportunities to add capacity and develop parameters/boundary conditions for those capacity projects.
– Innovate and develop designs to reduce power consumption and increase available building capacity for additional server racks.
– Perform design and equipment submittal review for capacity projects across Data Centers.
– Interface with internal and external data center design engineering teams, server hardware teams, environmental health and safety teams, field engineering, and controls engineering to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in services delivered.
– Work on concurrent projects and initiatives across multiple geographical regions.
– Support construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover of capacity projects across multiple geographical regions.

As a Fleet Remediation Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will be leading projects to reduce power utilization and increase capacity of our data centers to meet ever-evolving customer needs as we continue expanding our fleet to hyper-scale. As an ideal candidate you:
– Possess Strong Engineering Judgement and are able to provide design and recommendations despite uncertainty
– Are detail and data oriented with familiarity with design/construction processes
– Have experience managing engineering projects and engineering consultants.
– Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Commissioning, Construction and Design)
– Manage design and as built drawings and documents
– Prepare and present progress reports to all relevant stakeholders
– Be inclined to get into the field to see things up close

A day in the life
Each day you will interact with different teams responsible for all aspects of the data centers. You will prioritize your activities to closely collaborate with capacity planning & delivery teams to identify opportunities to increase capacity utilization and develop designs for projects to unblock the additional capacity. You will have the opportunity to work on projects globally and lead first of kind designs for innovative solutions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
– 3+ cumulative years of design experience with industrial or commercial engineering in Mission Critical facilities including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, oil / gas facilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Experience using a variety of web based and other software tools for calculation and data processing.
– Direct experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers.
– Experience as resident design engineer or hands-on (in the field) design consultant.
– Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
– Registered Professional Engineer

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market.
