DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a self-starter to join the Global Road Safety Risk Management team as a Senior Program Manager leading the global Safety Management System (DriveSMS) program. This role is responsible to the accountable executive for providing guidance and direction for the planning, implementation and operation of the organization’s safety management system (SMS). The Program Manager provides SMS-related services to the certificated, non-certificated and third-party areas of the organization that are included in the SMS and may have delegated responsibilities on behalf of persons holding positions. This role requires scoping large projects, managing project timelines, identifying safety gaps, and communicating to senior management on safety risks. Cross-team coordination, project management, executive presentation skills, a penchant for process improvement, and a proven history of delivering results are essential for success. A bias for action and comfort in dealing with ambiguity are a must. Often times it will not be clear how we will reach our end goal; you will be expected to help carve a path by taking risks and be willing to try new things, fail fast then iterate. Strong analytics and safety experience will be valued in an applicant.

• Managing the creation, implementation, and operation of the safety management system • Collecting and analyzing safety information in a timely manner • Administering any safety-related surveys • Monitoring and evaluating the results of corrective actions • Ensuring that risk assessments are conducted when applicable • Monitoring the industry for safety concerns that could affect the organization • Ensuring safety-related information, including organizational goals and objectives, are made available to stakeholders and leadership through established communication processes • Continuous process improvement; use the right metrics to measure policy quality and opportunities. Look around corners and anticipate safety challenges/obstacles the business could face and proactively developing a plan to address.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– 7+ years of program or project management experience
– 7+ years of cross functional project delivery experience
– 7+ years of working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams experience
– 7+ years of team management experience
– Bachelor’s degree
– Experience defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements
– Experience in transportation safety in the capacity of a safety investigator, safety/quality manager or safety risk manager
– Knowledge of safety management systems (SMS)
– An understanding of risk management principles and techniques to support the SMS
– Experience implementing and/or managing an SMS
– Experience and qualifications in transportation accident/incident investigation and human factors
– Experience and qualifications in conducting safety/quality audits and inspections
– Experience leading complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
– Experience successfully managing complex and competing projects
– Experience working in a highly cross-functional organization
– Experience transitioning from high level strategic thinking to creative and detailed execution
– Experience leading a team
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience implementing repeatable processes and driving automation or standardization
– Experience defining risk management roadmaps / Safety Management Systems
– Proficiency with SQL
– Systems thinking; able to recognize patterns and trends in data, content and customer needs which will drive program design and delivery
– Experience using exceptional judgment in managing projects with high potential impact
– Have experience in generating automated metrics
– Preferred to possess or be working towards a certification related to safety, audit, or risk
– NEBOSH/CSP Certification, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $225,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
