DESCRIPTION

Our team is responsible for growing an innovative global project that informs and drives larger company strategic decisions. We identify and improve the experience for Amazon’s customers by applying various methodologies and building software solutions across a wide range of technical stacks.

As a System Development Engineer on the team, you will be responsible for driving growth and efficiency for a multi-cloud infrastructure. You will design, develop, and implement scalable solutions to address complex challenges and enhance the performance across a broad set of systems and services. This role has the opportunity to work across entire project life cycles, from ideation and scoping to implementation and deployment.

You will architect multi-cloud solutions to improve availability and performance while increasing infrastructure resource utilization. You will develop systems and processes that manage cloud resources across different regions, clouds, and technical stacks to ensure overall health and stability.

You will be partnering with security, software engineers, and support engineers to raise the engineering and reliability bar, drive operational excellence, and ensure customer success. You will be a trusted resource on secure and scalable development and deployment practices, and work closely with engineers to identify opportunities to improve developer velocity and infrastructure efficiency while maintaining high availability and resilience. You will also lead efforts to identify and prioritize reliability and performance issues that can be detected through automation. This will involve developing prototypes for monitoring and experimenting with innovative solutions to enhance our tool set for system observability and optimization.

Key job responsibilities
– Be actively involved in regular engineering activities, providing hands-on technical guidance and support
– Lead architecture, design, and proof-of-concept efforts for end-to-end project delivery, ensuring high quality and simplicity in complex systems
– Design, implement, deploy, and maintain innovative cloud-based system software solutions to enhance service security, durability, availability, performance, and cost-efficiency
– Own complex projects, managing broad scopes with autonomy and accountability
– Communicate with customers and technical teams to define technical strategies and ensure alignment with business goals
– Stay current with evolving technologies, proactively researching new advancements to recommend and integrate into projects
– Apply engineering best practices to maintain a high standard of quality across all team deliverables

Customer Experience and Business Trends (CXBT) is an organization made up of a diverse suite of functions dedicated to deeply understanding and improving customer experience, globally. We are a team of builders that develop products, services, ideas, and various ways of leveraging data to influence product and service offerings for almost every business at Amazon – for every customer (e.g., consumers, developers, sellers/brands, employees, investors, streamers, gamers).

Our approach is based on determining the customer needs, along with problem solving, and we work backwards from there. We use technical and non-technical approaches and stay aware of industry and business trends. We are a global team, made up of a diverse set of profiles, skills, and backgrounds – including: Product Managers, Software Developers, Computer Vision experts, Solution Architects, Data Scientists, Business Intelligence Engineers, Business Analysts, Risk Managers, and more.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

– Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent
– 3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience
– Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
– Experience with Linux/Unix

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

– Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes
– Experience in automating, deploying, and supporting large-scale infrastructure
– 2+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
– Experience building services using AWS products

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $116,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
