DESCRIPTION
Amazon seeks an experienced Business Intelligence Engineer (BIE) to join the Deny Party Screening (DPS) team. Our mission is to prevent denied parties from transacting with Amazon businesses, including AWS, customers, vendors, sellers, subsidiaries etc. We build automatic mechanisms to detect and prevent prohibited transactions with the denied parties using a diverse set of algorithms and machine learning techniques. We screen over a billion events every day, integrate with Tier 1 systems and deal with unique scaling challenges. We are still Day 1 and have an exciting road map to build Machine Learning (ML) and Analytics powered detection and resolution systems to help scale Amazon for years to come.
we are looking for a Sr. BI Engineer with experience in applying analytics to solve complex business problems. The ideal candidate has a demonstrable track record of success in driving business impact through application of analytics. As a BI Engineer, you will work closely with internal stakeholders to perform data analyses, develop complex SQL queries for ad-hoc requests and projects, define metrics through your deep understanding of the business and create self-service dashboards/reports to bring visibility into health of the business. You will exercise your technical skills in SQL, Python or other data analysis tools and visualization tools such as QuickSight in order to produce reports and build dashboards that are flexible and information-rich.
Key job responsibilities
– Interface with business customers to gather requirements, drive reporting or analytic projects to help solve complex challenges.
– Design, implement, and support datasets that provide structured data for reporting and analysis.
– Develop QuickSight dashboards across various business teams to drive adoption and increase visibility into key measures of business performance.
– Use advanced analytics skills to analyze billions of rows of data to find the root causes behind variances and drive business insights.
– Investigate and implement new technologies to provide automatic resolutions to address business needs.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– 10+ years of professional or military experience
– 5+ years of SQL experience
– Experience programming to extract, transform and clean large (multi-TB) data sets
– Experience with theory and practice of design of experiments and statistical analysis of results
– Experience in scripting for automation (e.g. Python) and advanced SQL skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience working directly with business stakeholders to translate between data and business needs
– Experience managing, analyzing and communicating results to senior leadership
– Knowledge of data warehousing and data modeling
– Master’s degree in statistics, data science, or an equivalent quantitative field
– Experience with AWS technologies
– Experience with theory and practice of information retrieval, data science, machine learning and data mining

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $117,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $202,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
