The Amazon SageMaker team is looking for passionate and innovative design leaders who will guide our design efforts in this emerging and exciting field.
About you
You are an experienced design leader, ready to champion human centered design to simplify complicated and painful customer tasks and activities in data science and machine learning. You feel at home working in a diverse, multi-disciplinary design team that collaborates closely with scientists, product managers and engineers.
You have deep knowledge and practical experience in all aspects of UX design for software applications, from user research and idea generation to interaction design and functional prototyping. You focus on details and obsess over ways to improve the customer’s experience. You have big ideas and aren’t afraid to lead with design. You’re a strong design storyteller and are comfortable presenting your ideas to stakeholders.
You might have concerns about the job requirements and the AL & ML problem space, but still feel like you’d be a good fit. Key job responsibilities
We need a creative and customer-obsessed Sr. UX Designer to help drive key initiatives across the SageMaker family of products. Your work will help define, simplify, and improve the tools that empower millions of people working on our platform.
You’ll be responsible for leading design activity and driving deliverables like concept sketches, user scenarios & customer journeys, workflow diagrams, storyboards, wireframes, user interface designs, and prototypes. You’re an expert at using Creative Suite and Figma, and are comfortable creating prototypes of varying degrees of fidelity.
A day in the life
• Design products that delight a wide range of personas working with code, data, and machine learning models.
• Help a growing UX team develop a comprehensive design vision, approach, and strategy.
• Lead design projects through all phases, from user research and exploratory prototypes to design reviews, delivery, and usability testing.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively within cross-functional teams that span design, product, engineering, and management.
• Conduct and participate in design reviews with a range of stakeholders across the organization.
• Help innovate on the future vision of what an AI/ML platform looks like and how it should function.

The SageMaker Studio is focused on the most significant technologies shaping our collective future. The platform is responsible for creating revolutionary approaches to the systems that drive the development and deployment of AI and machine learning models on a global scale. This team solves fundamentally human problems, making the creation of transformational and highly disruptive technologies more meaningful and usable for the data science community and beyond.
To do this, we are building a new kind of design practice that brings together a diverse group of multi-disciplinary design thinkers and doers to tackle complex product design challenges in the machine learning domain. Our goal is extend AWS’s domain leadership in AI/ML and drive global recognition for product design excellence by serving critical customer needs.

Utility Computing (UC)
AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon’s Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS’s services and features apart in the industry. As a member of the UC organization, you’ll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
– 8+ years of design experience
– Have an available online portfolio
– Experience with UX design of complex workflows
– Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity
– Experience designing and prototyping with tools such as Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, InVision, or similar
– Experience working with stakeholders to plan and execute programs that are strategic in nature
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
– Experience acquiring user data (e.g., conducting usability studies, performing user research) and creating personas and journey maps
– Experience applying scrum to visual or UX design processes

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $127,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $211,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
