Amazon is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Sr. Operations Engineer. This individual will deep-dive and challenge current processes, equipment, and procedures, in our worldwide delivery station network, in order to come up with best-in-class, globally aligned delivery solutions. This individual will develop and improve the design and development of new and existing material handling equipment for our worldwide last mile network. This individual will drive global parity for automated and manual material handling equipment (MHE) and will interface with cross-functional teams from all engineering disciplines around the world.

A successful candidate will have an established background in developing high-performance physical automated material handling systems, a strong technical problem-solving ability, excellent project management skills, and an internal motivation to achieve high quality results in a fast-paced and ambiguous environment. This role has a worldwide scope will be responsible for setting and maintaining the standard for MHE. The Sr. Operations Engineer will act as an important stakeholder in the design processes and will contribute by (not limited to) incorporating field feedback into designs, updating and creating design specifications, leveraging vendor relationships, and tracking project risks. This role requires the ability to identify dependencies and bottlenecks by utilizing key process indicators and by compiling inputs from various contributors.

Key job responsibilities
• Own the design and development of engineering solutions for complex material handling challenges considering human/equipment interactions for the worldwide delivery station network
• Improve, design and develop scalable, highly productive and efficient machines ready for large scale deployments
• Lead and coordinate concept and design development efforts for optimal solutions for the through equipment specification, material flow, process design, safety, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations and site layout
• Work closely with vendors, suppliers and other teams to create solutions
• Simultaneously manage multiple high-visibility projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners and vendors
• Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects
• Conduct post mortem on designs after implementation
• Engage customers to identify areas of opportunity within the process and performance
• Build strong relationships with partner organizations within the company, across business units and across countries
• Conduct multi-disciplinary process improvement efforts to drive communication and performance
• Technical writing skills for specification and technical document creation
• Ability to travel up to 20% to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders (within NA but also internationally; particularly to EU and Japan)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Process Engineering or related STEM field is required
• 8+ years of experience in Design/Innovation, Research & Development, Manufacturing/Process/Industrial Engineering, or related fields.
• Experience in technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects
• Experience with complex MHE and packaging lines or process design based on Lean Manufacturing
• Experience using MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Emulate3D)
• Experience leading engineering design projects and interacting with cross-functional teams

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• MBA, Master’s Degree or other advanced degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Process Engineering, Operations, Business Administration or related field and at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the specialty
• 3+ year experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD
• Proficiency in Emulate3D
• Proficiency in running SQL queries and data mining
• Experience in engineering and estimating material handling and storage systems
• Operations Management/ Fulfillment/Distribution Center experience preferred
• Capital project management skills.
• Proficiency with concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, and decision making.
• Design-in-Safety experience
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
• Ability to manage, influence, negotiate, and communicate with external business partners and internal teams to meet organizational capacity needs

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $205,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
