What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Furnace Technician to partner with Engineers, Maintenance, and Associates to successfully operate melting furnaces. The Furnace Technician position is critical to ensuring the reliability and success of Tesla’s manufacturing operations. This role requires someone who is extremely safety oriented and comfortable working in extreme elements. A strong drive to learn new skills and acquire knowledge will improve your likelihood of succeeding both in this role and your personal career development at Tesla.
What You’ll Do
Operate and charge stack melting furnace and ensure efficient and timely transfers into holding furnace for consistent metal delivery to the DCM
Record the charge weight and additives into ignition
Collaborate with maintenance and engineering to reduce equipment related down time and implementation of process and equipment improvements
Ensure chemistry checks are being taken as required and as outlined in SOP ensuring Tesla specifications are met
Lead the recycle and re-melting process to reduce the raw materials cost with efficient charging and ladle activities out of the recycle furnace
Ensure incoming raw materials are efficiently organized to optimize floor space and maintain foundry tools and keep inventory
Maintain safe and clean work environment by assisting in cleaning both stack melter and holding furnace to improve metal quality and sustain refractory life and emptying dross bins accordingly as outlined in SOP
What You’ll Bring
Associate degree or technical certificate is a plus
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing / mass production environment
1+ year of experience in aluminum melting operations
Ability to manage workload while contributing to a positive, fast paced, team-oriented work environment
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and 5S principles
Skilled with the use of a variety of hand tools and basic measurement tools
Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
