What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:  

This position is expected to start around January 2025 and continue through the entire Winter term (i.e. through May 2025) or into Summer 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

What You’ll Do
Research and develop estimation and control algorithms for thermal management of the powertrain, battery, cabin HVAC, and heat pump 
Build dynamic thermal system models in Matlab/Simulink/Python or similar and use them to develop and refine control strategies and drive their implementation 
Work closely with firmware/integration engineers and perform on-vehicle testing to design, implement, test, debug, and calibrate your algorithms on our vehicles 
Success in this role will help us drive forward the best customer-experience in terms of performance, range, NVH, and cabin comfort 
What You’ll Bring
Currently pursuing an advanced degree in a relevant Engineering program such as Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or Automotive Engineering, or a related field 
Excellent first principles understanding of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics 
Strong background in linear systems analysis, observers, state-estimation, and first principles design and analysis of control systems 
Project experience in a relevant area such as battery/powertrain thermal management, HVAC and thermal comfort, refrigeration/heat pump systems, or thermal control 
Basic proficiency with embedded firmware development in C/C++ or similar
