What to Expect
The Tesla Energy Technical Content team creates and manages a wide variety of technical documentation that supports key stakeholders across multiple product lines and business functions including Energy Storage, Charging, and Solar. The team is looking for a senior-level Technical Writer who has experience getting hands-on with hardware and/or software/firmware products to conceptualize, create, and maintain entire sets of documentation for the Megapack product line. This role will be responsible for creating content from scratch, and updating and improving existing content, to contribute to a growing library of service manuals, datasheets, bulletins, etc. to equip end users with important information that enables the successful deployment, operation, service, and scale of Megapack. This role is full-time onsite in Hayward, CA. 
What You’ll Do
Write, edit, validate, and publish comprehensive documents such as installation manuals, service manuals, datasheets, commissioning guides, software walk-throughs, etc 
Effectively collaborate and build strong working relationships with subject matter experts such as engineers, technicians, and product managers to ensure alignment on programs/projects/priorities, and that all content is accurate and approved 
Proactively project-manage multiple documentation projects/initiatives concurrently to ensure that priorities are addressed appropriately, and that all standard team processes are followed 
Track ongoing product iterations and improvements across different regions worldwide to ensure that all information, including region-specific information, is properly documented, and socialized in a timely manner 
Interact directly with hardware and/or software products hands-on to fully understand how they work, to create content more effectively with the deeper product understanding in mind 
Manage document translations to support successful worldwide deployment of products and region-specific information availability 
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of Technical Writing experience in a high-tech environment working with technical subject matter experts, or equivalent experience
Experience writing step-by-step procedures, how-to user guides, and other instructional content in the form of manuals, work instructions, and service bulletins (both from scratch, and from existing drafts)
Experience in a technical role, e.g. technician, engineer are beneficial given this role’s strong technical expectation 
Proactivity to think ahead, plan for future changes to documentation, and suggest solutions to problems. 
Proficiency with industry-standard authoring and content creation tools (Word, InDesign, Oxygen XML Editor, FrameMaker, Visio, etc.) 
Experience working in a structured authoring environment (DITA/XML, HTML, etc.) 
Experience creating visual content that directly accompanies text within documents, such as taking photographs and editing them to include callouts and zoom-ins, and/or pulling CAD model visualizations from engineering databases
