Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Equipment Engineer to contribute to the development and improvement of new equipment for our advanced battery cell manufacturing processes.

The Battery is one of the most complex and challenging components designed and manufactured at Tesla. This is an exciting opportunity to build a world-class manufacturing facility from the ground up. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work on a critical subsystem of incredibly exciting products.

The Equipment Engineer Engineer will also work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes.  He/She will work closely with Engineering (Design and Manufacturing), Quality and Process teams to bring the new product from initial design, through prototype development and finally into full production.

What You’ll Do
You will be responsible for startup, validation, and improvement design of new/current equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
You will lead safety and ergonomic improvements to production equipment that meets or exceeds regulations or best practices. Equipment engineers are responsible for development and management of the hazardous energy isolation techniques and procedures on each equipment asset level.
You will perform equipment improvement designs, fabrications, installations, modifications, bidding/quoting, and collaborate with internal/external vendor organizations to iteratively design and install equipment improvements.
You will work with Controls Engineers and controls technicians to troubleshoot and recover processes by PLC, HMI, or tool management software, and implement changes/improvements
You will be creating detailed Maintenance instructions on how to perform complex and ambiguous repair work.
You will develop preventive maintenance procedure and a comprehensive spares list to maximize OEE of equipment
You will manage Continuous improvement projects to drive equipment improvements based on key performance metrics such as OEE, MTTR, MTBF
You will create machine interactions with plant-wide Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
What You’ll Bring
BS/MS Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
2+ years of experience as a hands-on Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer working on automation and/or solving electromechanical systems and software systems
Demonstrated hands on experience in ramping equipment into manufacturing – automation equipment, Hydraulics, pneumatics, electromechanical systems, and motion controls.
Demonstrated experience with development of operating/Maintenance instructions, and training of operators
Proficiency in designing mechanical equipment, fixtures and tooling in CAD (SolidWorks, Catia is a plus)
Preferred experience in creating/validating layouts, tooling drawings, Pneumatic and electrical schematics
Preferred experience with robot programming and Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Wintriss etc)
Preferred experience with semi-automated / automated manufacturing equipment in a high volume manufacturing environment
