What to Expect
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Linux Systems Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for managing projects and driving initiatives related to Tesla’s Linux compute infrastructure and adjacent services. These are services directly used by Manufacturing, Autopilot, Energy, and Tesla application teams. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and enforce policies, gather requirements, and oversee projects that ensure our systems are robust, secure, and aligned with business goals. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Linux systems, experience with base image creation, system configuration, security standards, and access methods, as well as a track record of successful project management and technical leadership.
What You’ll Do
Design and develop services for consumer of various Linux-based compute infrastructure services
Develop and maintain system configurations, base images, and deployment strategies
Implement and integrate adjacent services such as monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery
Create and enforce policies and standards related to Linux system administration, security, and compliance & develop best practices for system configuration, access methods, and base image creation
Lead and manage projects related to Linux infrastructure, including upgrades, migrations, and new deployments
Oversee the configuration, deployment, and maintenance of Linux systems and services & ensure system performance, reliability, and security through proactive monitoring and optimization
Implement and enforce security standards and practices to protect Linux systems and data and ensure systems are compliant with certifications and standards
Maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, policies, and procedures and prepare reports & updates for management on project status, system performance, and security posture
Work closely with engineering, operations, and security teams to support and enhance Linux infrastructure
Respond to and resolve incidents, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations and participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical Linux systems and services
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience in Linux distributions such as RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, or similar and in Linux system administration, with a strong focus on architecture, design, and scalability
Expertise in base image creation, system configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Cloud init), and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
Deep understanding of security standards, access methods, and compliance requirements
Experience in project management and leading cross-functional teams, excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
