What to Expect
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to accelerate our vehicle-level homologation test activities, with focus on energy consumption and range tests on vehicle dynamometers. The Engineering Technician will help drive Tesla’s vehicle testing programs by applying knowledge of Tesla vehicle systems and diagnostics to prepare, configure, and diagnose vehicles in preparation for, and during, testing. The role requires someone highly organized and confident in their ability to manage projects along a very fluid schedule. This full-time role requires the flexibility of traveling (up to 20%) to various domestic and international destinations and to test vehicles on public roads and proving grounds as needed.
What You’ll Do
Prepare prototype and production vehicles for testing, including part changes, alignments, vehicle diagnostics and instrumentation installation
Diagnose issues that arise during testing by supporting both on & off-site test trips
Operate chassis dynamometers and drive several traces while diligently following provided checklists
Design and build new instrumentation or test equipment as needed
Work with internal and external test labs and proving grounds during test activities
Document results of testing and communicate issues found to the test owners
Build and follow process for the teams, document potential issues and improvements
Work efficiently within a multidisciplinary cooperative environment on prototype, pre-production, and production vehicles
Critical thinking skills to work without instruction manuals or workbooks
Maintain a high knowledge level of high voltage, low voltage, and general electrical vehicle systems
What You’ll Bring
5+ years of technician or mechanic work experience in the automotive industry. Electric or hybrid vehicle experience preferred
Experience as an Engineering, Service or Manufacturing Technician
Valid driver license required
Strong automotive electrical understanding
High Voltage electrical knowledge and training
Minor fabrication experience
In-depth knowledge of Tesla vehicle systems, both in terms of operation and diagnostics
Excellent attention to detail, and prior experience documenting issues or builds is preferred
Willing to work overtime, weekends, as needed
Experience with chassis dynamometer testing preferred
