What to Expect
To ensure Tesla’s overall mission of accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing our world leading battery technology to the grid. Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, test, and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid connected storage at residential, industrial, and utility levels.
Tesla Energy is looking for an engineer who is passionate about integration of software, hardware, and mechanical design to drive the world’s transition to a sustainable future. We emphasize collaboration in our work, and always encourage each other to have fun while we change the world together.
What You’ll Do
Responsible for hardware and firmware integration across multiple teams, including component level and full system validation
Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure functional, performance, safety, and reliability requirements are successfully achieved
Drive continuous improvement in design and performance by providing direct and accurate feedback to design owners
Act as key leader of DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) as part of the product design, integration, and test process
Identify, escalate, and lead to resolve hardware critical issues during system bring up, performance tests, and safety tests
Conduct failure analysis to understand root cause and drive resolution for hardware and firmware failures originating in testing and from the field
Ensure the validation infrastructure is properly designed to stress test the components and full system for achieving highest quality energy product
Lead and own system level firmware validation, new features definition, firmware regression, and firmware releases
Develop and maintain automated firmware tests using Python libraries
Take part in hardware bring up and prototyping
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in hardware/firmware integration and validation
Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
Strong understanding of electrical systems, including inverters, batteries, and solar PV arrays
Experience with Python, C, C++
Hands-on experience with electrical, mechanical, and software engineering components and an understanding of how they interact in a complex product
Must be comfortable with hands-on lab work (including the use of scopes, CAN tools, soldering irons, etc. as needed to support integration)
Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills, able to identify and surface issues within complex HW/SW systems
Preferred: Working understanding of how grid-tied storage systems function and interact with the grid
Preferred: Strong understanding of device characteristics, gate driving circuit design, thermal design, magnetics design (inductors, transformers), power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC & DC/AC), modulation schemes, and control theories
