Consider before submitting an application:
This position is expected to start around January 2025 and continue through the entire Winter term (i.e. through May 2025) or into Summer 2025 if available. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships.
International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Automation Engineer intern to develop methods for simulating vehicle, environmental, and user behaviors at the system level. This role is crucial for guiding future product development and improving the quality of existing firmware releases. You’ll work in an innovative automation lab environment alongside a team dedicated to creating software, hardware, and mechanical solutions for automating system-level tests.

Functional Safety Concepts
Security and Authentication
Body Controls (including falcon wings, power front doors, and other vehicle mechatronics)
What You’ll Do
Design software, hardware, and automation infrastructure to simulate user and vehicle behaviors
Test features during development and release stages, providing design inputs
Investigate fleet/vehicle data, source code, and hardware schematics to identify and resolve system-level issues, proposing robust solutions
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve product safety, performance, and customer satisfaction
Create detailed and rigorous test specifications based on requirements and system understanding
Contribute to developing the world’s most exciting cars and the transition to sustainable transportation
Promote and protect Tesla’s reputation as a cutting-edge company
What You’ll Bring
Pursuing a degree in electrical/computer engineering, systems engineering, or a related field of study with a graduation date between April 2025-December 2026
Hands-on experience debugging software and hardware in complex systems
Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages
Strong interest in solving complex and time-critical problems
Experience with automation tools (e.g., Jenkins, Docker)
Familiarity with C/C++ for embedded systems
Experience with Lithium and lead-acid batteries, charging, and safety considerations
