What to ExpectThe Metrology Engineering Technician will work as a mid/senior technical support member to metrology dimensional engineering group in the quality organization. The successful candidate will work in the lab with different metrology equipment to program and/or run programs for part level sub-assemblies as dictated by the dimensional control plan or diagnostic request from engineering. There may be occasional work on the production floor with portable metrology equipment measuring parts on a car, part scans alone, tooling fixtures, material handling tooling etc. It is fundamental that the candidate has a strong background with interpreting GD&T part drawings, ability to program CMMs with PC-DMIS or similar software and has experience with portable metrology equipment. What You’ll DoCreate and/or run CMM measurement programs for different part assemblies in the lab or on line side measurement systemsReview and edit programs to correct issues or optimizationsWork with Metrology Engineering group to coordinate calibrations and work to improve equipment maintenance issuesPerform Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GRR) studies to evaluate measurement methodsPractice 5S cyclical methodology (sort, set in order, shine, standardize, and sustain) to drive continuous improvement in the lab workspaceCollaborate with Engineering groups for fixture design and measurement strategiesLearn new technologies and train other technicians as required What You’ll Bring5 year minimum experience in a technical metrology roleExperience with at least one metrology software (Polyworks or PC-DIMS) is required, multiple is highly preferredExperience working with in-line vision systems is preferredExperience working from point cloud creation to report building with CM4D is major assetAbility to develop measurement programs from scratch or with minor guidance and run necessary R&R reports to determine accuracy of data from program and fixtures
