What to Expect
As an Electronics Reliability Engineer, you will be at the forefront of enhancing the reliability of our innovative Energy and Charging products by performing in-depth failure analysis and investigating the underlying mechanisms of electronic failures within our Industrial Energy, Residential Energy, Charging, and Solar products during the design and development phase. Your role will involve conducting rigorous hands-on analysis and accelerated life testing to quantify component degradation and forecast long-term performance. With expertise in electronic circuit root cause analysis and utilizing hardware debugging techniques, you will deploy sophisticated electrical instrumentation and characterization tools such as x-ray Computed Tomography (CT) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Your findings will be crucial in identifying and rectifying design and material weaknesses, providing essential insights that drive the optimization of designs and fortify the robustness and dependability of Tesla’s cutting-edge energy and charging solutions.
What You’ll Do
Apply various inspection techniques to evaluate the state of health of electronic components and identify signs of degradation for diagnostics and prognostics of new Tesla designs during the development phase
Provide insights into hardware root causes of detected accelerated life test failures and recommend potential mitigations to address these issues for early Tesla design spins
Collaborate with colleagues across teams to drive effective communications with leadership to present results and propose solutions
Lead innovation in inspection methodologies and deepen the understanding of failure modes to optimize the remaining useful life for Tesla Energy & Charging products
Maintain a safe and efficient laboratory space by following safety and 5S best practices
Actively train colleagues on lab equipment usage and inspection methodologies, fostering a knowledgeable and skilled team
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
Understanding of failure characterization and reliability of HV/LV electronics hardware with one or more years of relevant experience
Working knowledge of testing methods employed to determine quality and reliability of electrical components preferred
Experience using failure analysis techniques such as X-ray, CT, CSAM, cross-sectioning, optical microscopy, SEM, and EDX
Knowledge of methods to design-in reliability for electronics, including electronic computer-aided design and mechanical computer-aided engineering (CAE) data into 3D finite element models (e.g. using Sherlock) a plus
Attention to detail, propensity to seek out underlying how/why, and inclination to innovate
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team
