What to Expect

The Chassis Controls team is looking for a Functional Safety Engineer to design and develop world class safety-critical Chassis Controls features. We are looking for experienced candidates eager to work on this system.

The Chassis Controls team provides safety critical functions like braking and steering to drive a vehicle and complex vehicle functions like traction control, stability control, and anti-lock braking to ensure safe vehicle operation at the limit of physics. You will help design and build these software systems that meet rigorous safety and reliability requirements. You will be tasked to determine the necessary system design paradigms, controller networking, and monitoring concepts while working with a team of other functional safety engineers to develop the right frameworks, tools, and processes to realize these functions that exceed or even define the standards for the company and industry.

This is a high visibility role with a large responsibility. You will work cross-functionally with electronics and hardware teams to accomplish goals and meet requirements you have determined for the system. You will also personally produce software and solutions across the full vertical stack to meet some of these requirements. Come join a diverse team of experts across various domains to realize many of the industry firsts in Chassis Controls.

What You’ll Do
Arrive at the functional safety concept and design and build system architectures for Vehicle Dynamics and Brake Controls software with functional safety at the forefront of the design
Lead functional safety activities like HARAs, DFMEAs, Technical Safety Requirements definition using internal and industry-standard tools to guide design and ensure high system reliability and performance
As necessary, implement safety-critical software to satisfy requirements in system architecture with a focus on monitoring and safety code
Ensure follow-through on design aspects across various teams and develop milestones from conception to production (e.g., development trips, engineering public road driving, and customer sign off)
Inform the safety concept validation plan to ensure high quality product test cases in-vehicle as well as in simulation
Mentor peers and junior engineers on the functional safety process, tools, and frameworks
What You’ll Bring
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
Experience designing safety-critical systems
First-hand experience with automotive safety standards (such as ISO 26262) and relevant tools including Hazard and Risk Assessment (HARA) and/or Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
Deep technical experience in any of the following: vehicle dynamics, vehicle braking, embedded systems, software development
Experience with testing and validating safety critical software
Proficiency in Controls is preferred
Proficiency in C or Python is preferred
Experience with CAN and Vector CAN tools
