What to Expect

The Joining Engineer position, reporting to the Staff Joining Engineer, is located at GFTX in Austin, Texas. The primary responsibility of this role is to manage and launch joining engineering projects from design to start of production. The candidate should have expertise and experience in automotive manufacturing with a full understanding of joining equipment. This includes providing input and specification of equipment, quality, cycle time, design for manufacturability and joint development.

What You’ll Do
Specification of joining equipment & systems such as: hemming, self piercing riveting, clinching, drawn arc welding, resistance spot & projection welding, laser welding & brazing and material dispensing
Manage CapEx project lifecycle: Justification, specification / option analysis, approval, spending & budget, factory acceptance testing, installation, commissioning, validation, and transfer of ownership
Joint development: creating parameters and joining schedules for unique stack-ups and joints in all joining applications
Production readiness declaration, including PM plans, spare part allocation, training, process documentation, lessons learned and production & quality sustainability
Optimize joining processes to improve quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Robot path optimization, sequencing, parameter setup. Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as maintenance, quality, process to ensure process stability and performance
Structure improvement & standardization plans with long term vision to achieve company and department objectives
Study technologies to expert-level of understanding, utilizing internal & external technical resources to fully understand, teach and lead new / newly implemented technologies
What You’ll Bring
Bachelors Degree or equivalent certification or proven equivalent experience
3+ years of experience with joining equipment and processes for BIW automotive: self piercing riveting, clinching, drawn arc welding, resistance spot & projection welding, laser welding & brazing and material dispensing
Kuka and Fanuc experience for day-to-day joining process application (robot path & position teaching is a plus)
Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Able to work flexible hours and schedules as required
