What to Expect
Tesla’s Body in White Model Y team is hiring a hands-on and analytical Vehicle System Engineer to lead specific vehicle modules. The individual will focus on design for manufacturing/assembly for launch programs during the concept phase with emphasis on form and dimensional quality for the specific module assigned. This will require individuals to be knowledgeable about tooling strategies in a manufacturing environment, strong fundamentals in dimensional variation analysis, and statistical controls to provide meaningful input during design reviews. The primary objective is risk mitigation for mass-production capability and supporting in the resolution of complex dimensional topics during series production.
What You’ll Do
Design review for launch programs – feasibility review of concepts established for the product in the real world. Focus on design for manufacturing/assembly (DFMA) where meaningful feedbacks are provided to enable best manufacturing capabilities/solutions
Establishing and reviewing major DLDs (datum location documentation) for major assembly / check fixtures. Validation of major tooling/check-fixtures with MSA studies
Review part and assembly data using data collection software (CM4D, Polyworks, Dataloop). Self-sufficiency, individual will learn and operate digital measurement devices like Leica Laser Tracker / Hexagon Absolute Arm
Ability to perform dimensional variation analysis of issues through stack-up analysis at body/vehicle level through basic 1D-RSS or 3D analysis using software package in 3DX
Dimensional validations of parts to meet overall product quality intent
Lead/support hemming validation for product form quality through understanding requirements based on industry standards and Tesla specifications
Support/drive problem solving complex dimensional topics – going through fundamental dimensional analysis with stack breakdown contribution
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field (Mechanical Engineering preferred) with 2 or more years of experience in a manufacturing, dimensional or vehicle systems engineering role in Automotive
Mechanical inspection experience using basic and precision measurement tools w/ willingness to learn and use CMM equipment
Has prior experience in designing and deploying manufacturing tooling
Prior experience in areas of designing, deploying manufacturing tooling, validation and qualification of manufacturing tooling preferred
Experience with working on metal and plastic components from a dimensional variation perspective
Strong underlying GD&T fundamentals coupled w/ experience with Measurement System Analysis (MSAs) and Statistical Process Control Analysis preferred
Ability to use CATIA V5, 3DX is highly desired w/ other key software experience like Polyworks/Dataloop, JMP or Minitab is a plus
