What to Expect
The Crash Sensing Team is part of the wider Safety and Restraints Group at Tesla. The group is primarily responsible for optimising the deployment of vehicle restraints (airbags, seatbelts and pedestrian protection devices) in the event of a crash. Collection and analysis of data from crashes which occur in the field in addition to that from standard crash tests is integral to the design of the restraints system. The role of Data Engineer – Crash Sensing is key to the collection and analysis of this real-world crash data, supporting Tesla’s commitment to improving occupant safety and lowering the risk of injury below that achieved by meeting regulatory requirements alone.
What You’ll Do
Assist in the maintenance and expansion of regional databases containing data from crashes, building upon existing Python and Matlab pipeline scripts. Work within regional data privacy regulations

Root cause and correct any failures in the pipeline; modifying pipeline scripts to accommodate any changes in evolving data sources

Review real-world crash events  

Perform data analysis, building software tools where required. Analysis topics include but are not limited to injury prediction, crash detection optimization, fleet crash exposure characterization

Facilitate the provision of data to a variety of stakeholders within the company
What You’ll Bring
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
Experience in analysis of experimental or scientific data
Knowledge of the design and use of SQL database
Developing software to perform analyses – Python 3+ and Matlab 
Understanding of vehicle sensors, DSP, kinematics, and ML
