What to Expect
Tesla is seeking an ambitious Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist to collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, maintenance, recycling, and facilities leaders and advise on a wide range of EHS disciplines. They will use human and organizational principles to drive ownership of safety, health and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, learning from events, and systems-level problem solving.
The EHS Specialist will develop, implement, and continuously improve programs within the EHS Management System framework in partnership with the broader Global EHS, Engineering, and Manufacturing ecosystems. They will also ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and conformance to internal, industry and consensus standards, as appropriate.
What You’ll Do
Actively work as a key Management of Change stakeholder on behalf of the Tesla EHS and Manufacturing teams to ensure that Production and Factory changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety and the environment
Evaluate specific risks on Powered Industrial Vehicles/Trucks (PIV/PIT) interactions with pedestrians and develop recommendations (safeguards) to eliminate and/or reduce hazards in production, dock, and warehousing environments
Partner with other EHS functions (Industrial Hygiene, Construction Safety, Environmental, Ergonomics, Electrical Safety, Equipment Safety, etc.) to treat the unique risks of Production Control and Recycling operations
Facilitate incident investigations using a Learning Teams approach, ensuring that preventative actions address system causes and not solely individual behaviors
Provide regular incident trends and analysis to ensure stakeholders understand key risks and provide a plan to close any gaps identified; Assist with field work EHS-impacts oversight, participating in pre-job/task planning and verification of controls/safeguards before starting work
Ensure the Giga Texas EHS Management System elements are applied effectively throughout operations. Develop new procedures, inspections, trainings, or reports as needed
Implement and support EHS KPI compliance throughout areas of ownership. Create and lead Safety Committee, Gemba Walks, proactive risk reduction projects with Manufacturing Production and Engineering teams
What You’ll Bring
Bachelors Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, related field Certifications (ASP, CSP) are preferred; or equivalent experience
Minimum 3 years work experience as an environmental, health or safety professional, preferably in a manufacturing, warehousing, distribution/shipping, or similar industrial segment
Strong understanding of Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) safe operation, unsafe equipment conditions, and proper corrective actions to eliminate unsafe conditions
Experience leading EHS program development, training and communicating with all levels of personnel, and influencing/managing change
Advanced technical knowledge in health and safety disciplines including Hazard Communication, LOTO, Confined Space, Electrical Safety, Safe Work at Height, Powered Industrial Vehicles, Material Handling, Loading Dock Safety, Ergonomics, and Equipment Safety
Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines; adaptable in all types of environments (office, production floor, docks, off-site warehouses, etc.)
Well organized with meticulous attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, ability to make independent decisions, self-motivated, and proactive in EHS&S approach
