What to ExpectTesla is seeking a dynamic environmental professional to join the Environmental, Health and Safety Team (EHS). The role will support various environmental compliance programs at Tesla’s Fremont Factory in Fremont, CA. Reporting to the Environmental Affairs Manager, the Sr. Environmental Engineer will be responsible for performing complex technical work in a wide range of environmental disciplines, including air quality compliance and permitting projects. He or she will also manage external environmental consultants, serve as the internal environmental technical subject matter expert, and advise and influence internal business partners in order to achieve environmental performance goals. Be part of the Tesla EHS Team that builds capacity, provides solutions, and drives continuous improvement throughout the Global Tesla Organization.What You’ll DoEnsure Tesla operates in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Identify, assess, and control environmental risksManage the application and permitting process for new projects, as assigned. Manage air permit and regulatory compliance including recordkeeping, air emission source testing, and periodic air emissions and compliance reporting. Complete Title V monthly, semi-annual, and annual compliance reportingSupport California Air Resources Board (CARB) State Programs as needed, including Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reporting, Refrigerant Management Program, and Diesel Off-Road and Large Spark Ignition (LSI) requirements. Support audits and inquiries from regulatory agencies, including Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and BAAQMDSupport coordination of source testing/emission testing permit requirements with Plant Operations and Process TeamsPerform incident analysis to determine causal factors and the most appropriate corrective actions. Perform compliance evaluations, and utilize tracking tools to issue recommendations and corrective actions to responsible stakeholdersAssist in planning for changes in physical facilities, reviewing new or modified equipment and new manufacturing programs to meet regulatory and company requirementsDevelop, track, and report environmental metrics; and develop and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions What You’ll BringBachelor’s Degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or Environmental-related discipline; Master’s degree preferred; or equivalent experience. Professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) is a plusMinimum 3-5+ years’ experience with permit compliance for a major source facilityKnowledge of federal NESHAP/MACT/NSPS requirements related to automobile manufacturing is a plusAir permitting and compliance – NSR/Title V (CA experience preferable). Previous experience preparing air emission reports. Experience managing regulatory/agency inspectionsDemonstrated ability to work efficiently, prioritize workflow, meet demanding deadlines, and manage multi-faceted projects in a fast-paced environment, where demands and priorities change rapidlyAbility to communicate effectively with production employees, engineers, legal counsel, technical specialists, and management, cross functionally, in a multi-disciplinary, global environmentStrong foundational knowledge of EHS laws (CAA, CWA, RCRA, CEQA, DOT, CFC, Cal-OSHA, etc.), regulations, and standards
