What to ExpectTesla’s Vehicle Engineering department is composed of thousands of the world’s best Vehicle, Battery, and Manufacturing Engineers. These Engineers are responsible for the mechanical and industrial design of all major programs, for example, batteries, Optimus, Robotaxi, and all new factories. Engineering Automation Software is part of Vehicle Engineering and contains the Design Exchange team. Design Exchange is responsible for providing programmatic access to this design data to the broader Tesla engineering and manufacturing communities. Design Exchange is crucial to managing the flow of mechanic, electrical, electronic, and manufacturing designs across Tesla and its supplier network by providing a suite of APIs that act as fast, reliable, and secure interfaces for downstream teams. In the absence of these APIs, teams are forced to resort to inefficient manual processes, relying heavily on human intervention and tools like Excel for managing design data. These ad-hoc approaches lead to rapidly outdated information, introduces errors, and significantly increases operational risk for Tesla.What You’ll Do Act as a strong individual contributor, work in new or existing projects with little to no guidance Write and review design docs – new services/features, refactors, technology choices, process changes, etc Participate in code reviews, offer constructive feedback to improve code quality and maintainability Participate in an on-call rotation, manage incidents as Incident Commander, write actionable incident reports Manage tasks via Jira for observability and human capacity planning, maintaining excellent Jira hygiene Participate in hiring, conduct technical screens and provide feedback to hiring manager in panels Work cross-functionally, collaborate with other teams to understand and address their needs Provide mentorship to junior engineers in the application and understanding of best practices, fosters their professional growth What You’ll Bring Proficiency in one or more general-purpose programming languages e.g. Go, C++, or Java Deep knowledge of distributed systems architecture and event streaming platforms Deep understanding of REST and/or gRPC based APIs and microservice architecture Strong understanding with one or more database technologies Familiarity with containerization and deployment configuration with Docker and Kubernetes Familiarity with code reviews in the context of a team and providing constructive feedback to others Familiarity with diagnosing problems and incidents in multi-layered enterprise application
